Isabella of Parma enters a nunnery

What if Isabella of Parma, the OTL wife of Joseph, Archduke of Austria becomes a Nun, her problem is that she is a lesbian and has difficulty with men, who would Joseph marry in an ATL?

Interesting idea! Re Joseph's marriage, possibly one of Louis XV's younger daughters or a Spanish princess - perhaps Maria Luisa who in OTL married his brother Leopold.

If he had married Maria Luisa - who had a huge family with Leopold - then Joseph may well have left an heir and numerous spares so Leopold would never have become the HRE.

Maria Benedita of Portugal? She was proposed for Josef after Isabella died OTL, the Portuguese were heavily invested in the match, even going so far as to have a ship specially built for her to carry her to the Low Countries, where she would marry Josef in Brussels, before journeying to Vienna

Maria Benedita would be an interesting choice. I think from memory - I recently read a biography of her sister, Queen Maria - that Benedita was quite pretty and sweet natured. One of the reasons Joseph's second marriage failed was because he was still mourning Isabella and didn't want to have to take another wife. If there was no Isabella in the picture then he might well have taken to Benedita and the two of them could have been happy together - and perhaps have a large family.
