Is there a realistic way for a European country to become the 51st state of the USA?

Definitely not very plausible, but how about a POD that has a Central Powers victory in the First World War and later on a second World War in the mid-50s that has nuclear and chemical weapons used, ultimately leading to a conflict so devastating that Continental Europe is pretty much reduced to a pseudo post-apocalyptic wasteland by the end of it.

The US (who stayed in isolation) ends up filling in the power vacuum.

Post-Brexit rump UK (England + Walles). N.I. amalgamates with Republic of Ireland and Scotland goes its own way, maybe rejoining the EU.

“And purchasing of Iceland see,s being pointless anyway. There is not anything important and it has not strategic value.”

No strategic value?
During WW2, WALLIES used it as a naval base to protect Atlantic convoys. During the Cold War, NATO continued using it as a naval base to monitor Russian Navy incursions into the Atlantic Ocean.
As for no resources: Does anyone remember the “Cod War” when (late 20th century) tiny Iceland chased off British fishermen? This was around the same time that European fishing fleets finished strip-mining the Grand Banks of Newfoundland.

You have two problems. A place that would be willing to become a state and a place the states are willing to accept.
Each is a hard to find location and I am afraid that they are mutually exclusive.

Just about the only place the citizens of the US would except would be one of the western Eurpean countries. Starting with England and just about ending there as well. Germany and France are possible but doubtful. Same for italy. Anyplace else... forget about it.

And I can’t picture england signing up. France would want Us to join them and well Germany would want to run everything.

Maybe in some strange alternative WW1 where all of Europe falls. Russia is pushed back to the Urals and the US is not in the war until much later. England is bankrupt, and Germany is bombing it and dropping chemical and biological weapons on it and the entire royal family dies in various attacks. As a last desperate measure to fend off the dreaded sea mammal (made possible because of years of success and being able to all of Europe to build and pay for it).

But then we are back to the same problem to get Britain or England to be willing to become a state they have to be so screwed up that the US will not want them.

Some of the mid-Atlantic chains (Canaries, Azores, Madeira) may be possibilities depending on the situations in Iberia, but if DC holds their nose about the number of Catholics here they might regularize matters with PR as well.
