Alternate History has a fetish for making us go further in space, and that is born in many ways out of the idea that we were going to go further in space, and have all those things like Moon colonies and space stations, commercial travel into space, a man on Mars, and possibly even Mars colonies and mining of the asteroid belt (give or take some of those) before major budget cuts and loss of interest got in the way and gave us a history of landing on the Moon before giving up on going further, and settling with LEO Space Shuttles, a handful of disposable space stations, robotic probes exploring the solar system, and that's it.

Given that, is our Space Program and history with Space backwards compared to what it most likely should have been, and what it would most likely be in most other realities? Or are we at a reasonable pace and development? Put another way, if we took 100 people from 100 different realities, how would most of them perceive it?
