So I've been wondering in the last years of the war 1864, or more likely 1865 realizing their cause is hopeless if the Confederate leadership could cut a deal to "evacuate" to Haiti. At this point they are beaten know they are beaten, but comparatively to other countries have a large and modern force albeit shabby and under supplied.

I actually think the Union would go for this deal in a heartbeat it ends the war and solves the problem of what to do with the Confederate leaders, you don't need to put them on trail or let them go, just let them go to exile and end the war.

How to get the Confederates to propose it, I'm not sure I suppose a good point of departure would be to have Jefferson Davis propose this but I'm not sure if it's keeping with his character. Did anyone propose something like this in real life? I know some Confederates went to Brazil who were the leaders there? If the idea is proposed from the top I do think enough of the elite would follow they just fought a war to keep their plantation lifestyle this allows them to keep their wealth and their slaves, and Haiti is small you just need the fanatics and die hards to have enough.

The most difficult part is common soldiers, in 1865 the army was in pretty dire straights even offering land and slaves for participants I'm not sure if you could get enough soldiers to conquer Haiti to volunteer. Would it be possible to get 50,000-70,000 soldiers as an invading/colonizing force. I figure existing Confederate supplies could adequately equip and supply such a force as long as the rest of the army was disbanded.

So what do you think anything you see as ASB and any good ideas for points of departure?
