Is American Independence Inevitable?

I ask this because it seems that every scenario where the ARW is averted resolves the conflict by having the 13 colonies becoming a protectorate or proto-Dominion of Britain, with the implication being that American nationalism and independence is almost inevitable, and an only be subverted by having Britain recognize it as an equal.

So how can we delay American independence to the point that it is unrecognizable as any familiar derivation on the OTL model that are often seen on this board?

Have the British actually learn the lessons of the fall of the House of Stuart and the English Civil Wars, which were fought for pretty much the same reasons, taxation and representation, and you may be able to delay American independence.

No. Independence is certainly not inevitable.

However, what is virtually inevitable (unless Britrain adopts some very unrealistic and self-defeating limitations on settlement and population in its north american colonies) is the the gradual "americanization" of the British Empire as (1)Americans of european descent come to outnumber Britons in the Empire, (2) travel and communication between the British Isles and America becomes faster and easier, and (3) some form of direct american representation in parliament is established.

This would probably occur even without the western expansion of what became the USA and Canada in OTL.
