I think you cannot ignore FAA and British subs, one well aimed torpedo in any of the capital ships and whole operation is jeopardized

Secondly did you mention how this German fleet will be resupplied at sea for so long ? Sorry maybe I missed it in your post

It is lacks plausibility and is difficult to comment on since there are so many changes from OTL and outright handwavium required to get all these ships to the South Atlantic.

First off I am not trying to argue one way or the other or be a dick. I just want to have an intelligent conversation about this somewhat unrealistic (yet in my humble opinion totally possible in an alternate TL) naval battle.

I will also acknowledge that there is some amount of "handwavium." In that there are a lot of changes. I was choosing to ignore submarines because they take all the fun out of a battleship slugfest in my opinion.

No I did not...I haven't really finished fleshing out this scenario, this was the basic idea with some supporting details. It was more or less it was born of seeing a theoretical ship duel in a YouTube WoW video between super Yamato, Montana, and Graf. I will work on that in a few minutes. Although generally speaking I would think you wouldn't need to resupply the whole fleet in under 40 days...However I could be wrong. Maybe some fuel juggling between ships?

I just thought it would be interesting for 1...never said it was realistic. Speaking secondly to the manner of getting all of these ships in from the Pacific.

In OTL supposedly there was plans to bring several major surface combatants in from the Pacific if Germany managed to get those ships all out at the same time. According to something I saw recently 2 Iowa's were once sent into the north Atlantic in case Tirpitz was able to get past the British.

In that case as soon as the British lost the German fleet, those ships would have likely left Pearl Harbor with a decent head of steam and deeploaded for the Canal, it is also not unlikely that one or more of the ships would have been in one or more of the naval yards for a refit.

Again, not trying to be an idiot. I just want to have a conversation. I am open to suggestions to make this a more plausible story. I'm hoping to flesh it out here then make it more interesting from other points of view so it becomes an actual story not just a theory.

First, if it is not realistic or require many handwaves, then this is not the suitable forum for it. Please use ASB sub forum.

Second, unless you cam explain why the German Navy suddenly want to suicide by doing such sortie and leave the German coast completely uncovered, this story is unrealisitic.

I will close this thread and move it elsewhere. To be fair it was my very first attempt at creating a thread.
