Iron Dream world

I just finished reading the work The Iron Dream and while the novel within the novel is...disturbing to say the least, I'm rather interested in the AH world in the work.

Long story short, the POD is Hitler moving to America after WWI, the Nazis don't show up, instead Germany goes communist and by the late 40s Britain has fallen to the USSR and by the late 50s communism is flaring up in Latin America. Imperial Japan and America are allies, and are the last remaining Great Powers between the entire planet falling under Soviet domination.

So, two questions: 1) is it even possible?

2) assuming it is possible, does Imperial Japan and America have any chance in defeating the communist mega-USSR?

I readily admit that I absolutely enjoyed the work. It's the only book I've read in recent years that has actually given me an adrenaline rush since it's nonstop brutal quest for greatness and power through Steel Commander. If that makes me a terrible person, so be it. I sorely wish that my own writing could elicit even a twentieth of the psychological effect that Spinrad achieves.

As for the presented AH, no it's not possible, at least not in the exact terms Spinrad gives. Europe falls, okay, China goes red, sure, but the thing is that local elites would start looking to the US and Japan for anti-Communist backing. Also just IOTL we had very violent splits between China, the USSR, Vietnam, Cambodia, Albania, and to a far lesser extent Romania. And no, the solution isn't to just make all the new conquests SSRs because the Soviet leaders like it or not had to acknowledge national differences. If they couldn't even get the Slavic nations to unite as one strong bloc, no way in hell they are going to do it with billions of West Europeans, Muslims, Indians, and Chinese.
