Irish Unification in the 14th Century?

Ok, since it seems like a wanked Ireland is somewhat of a cliche on AH.com, here is what I think is a unique way of getting an early united Ireland.

In 1315, Robert de Brus, King of Scotland, sent his brother Edward to Ireland to create a second front against the English. He was even offered the position of High King. He was initially successful, but starvation and disease spread and caused resentment against him. Eventually, he was defeated at Faughart in 1318.

I don't have much time to post anything more, but I was wondering: Could Edward could have succeeded in forming a lasting Scottish conquest in Ireland?

This isn't unique and has been brought up many times. Ireland just doesn't have the strategic isolation that much of Scotland has. Ireland is just too easily retaken by the english, Much to my dismay all attempts at making Ireland great are ASB

What about an earlier break between England proper and the Anglo-Irish of the Dublin Pale?
Would this change anything that might make an Ireland wank work?
