Apologies to Pervez for taking his idea off at a tangent, but this comes directly from a comment on the Cuba of Europe thread.

What if Ireland was ruled by a quasi-fascist dictatorship for much of its history? You can take this a number of ways. Michael Collins survives and establishes a military regime rather than allow the anti-treaty side back into government. The Blueshirts have a larger role than in OTL and set up a clerico-fascist state. De Valera becomes a corrupt dictator and president-for-life, along the lines of a number of African countries. However it happens, Ireland becomes a dictatorship from the 20s through the 50s.

Then the regime is overthrown in some sort of coup/revolt, and a left-wing regime takes over, which rapidly moves into the Soviet camp. What happens next? Do things proceed like OTL Cuba? Is Communist Ireland snuffed out by British intervention? Does it heat up the Cold War? Or do the Russians steer clear of involvement?
