Iraqi aims in the Iraqi Iran war

So what were Iraqs aims?

I know their were some islands and that province they wanted as well as to end the iranian support for the Shias and the Kurds
But where their any more or have I got then all?

Depending on how large the victory was they wanted to annex the arab-inhabited region of Ahwaz and as a maximum goal depose the revolutionary government and either put the PMOI in power or fragment Iran even more.

Yeah this is what I got
They wanted this because of the oil and the Arab population I believe

Iraq's logistics would never have supported a campaign to do a "drive to Tehran" style campaign.

A true and complete Iraqi victory would have been the conquest of Khuzestan followed by either the creation of a pro-Iraq client-state or direct annexation into Iraq. Along of course with little things like the resolution of the Shatt-al-Arab dispute in Iraq's favor.

I was under the impression it was 50% internal support issues on Saddam's part.

Wasn't he also "encouraged" by Saudi and Kuwait? after all,he claimed he did for the greater Arab population, hence his claim of having the iraq debts written off?
