Shining Time Station returns to PBS with a guest appearance by Tiffany Disney and various members of the USA women's national hockey team, who had won gold at last year's Winter Olympics. In the episode, a snowstorm delays Team USA's train ride to an international tournament. The Conductor (Mark Hamill) uses a Thomas the Tank Engine story involving a similar situation to teach Grayson (Alex Wolff) and his friends (Grace Rolek and Madison Pettis respectively) to be more flexible when making plans after school, especially in times of rough weather.

In North Korea, rumors of longtime leader Kim Jong Il being in hospice care turned out to be true. Kim Jong Nam will offiically take power on February 1, vowing to reunite the North with the South and open the North to Western enterprises.

The Social Network (released ITTL by Columbia Pictures) sweeps the Golden Globes in most motion picture categories. Winning best actress in a TV drama is Katey Sagal for the third season of FX series Sons of Anarchy. Glee, in its second season, wins Best Musical or Comedy Series. Other wins for Glee include Chris Colfer as Kurt Hummel and Jane Lynch as Sue Sylvester for their respective supporting roles. Tiffany Disney took home a Golden Globe as Glee co-producer alongside creator Ryan Murphy.

Warner Bros and Columbia-TriStar agree on a $280 million USD deal for WB to acquire the English language rights to past adaptations of Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh! property.

After years of legal limbo, Paramount Pictures reaches a deal to translate Lupin III to English under the MGM label. Previously, VHS and Laserdisc prints of Lupin had only been available in Japanese with English subtitles through Viz Media. The first Lupin anime dub is slated for a fall 2012 debut on Adult Swim.
