International consequences of successful reconstruction

If fromer slaves continued to exercise political and civil rights what would be the effects.

1)Would Europeans feel America is in some ways inferior for allowing black people so much influence

2) Would formerslaves identify with Africans in Africa?

Would there be any difference in alliances

They would care more about class than color, depending on how things are structured. They only started shipping over Africans they bought from Arabs, Omanis, and other Africans, when they ran low on Amerindians and couldn't get enough indentured servants and apprentices to act as their slaves.

Not important...

The USA was, overall, unimportant to the European powers IN THIER MINDS AND PLANS, and would most likely stay that way. The isolationist giant simply wsn't much of a factor--until it started to wake up. And once it started to wake up, it would still, IMVHO, be seen as a white-led nation. No major changes--though wealthy blacks travelling over there might find a less than warm reception.

No, since Europeans were'nt racist in the same way as Americans, plus European countries had Blacks and Asians voting and holding office as it was in the 19th century.

2) Would formerslaves identify with Africans in Africa?

Why would they?

I mean apart from people descended from the Irish, most Americans don't identify with Europe or whatever specific country their ancestors were from other than 'Oh, my great-grandmother was from there before she moved to America; maybe I'll take a vacation there one day.', and in a situation where African-Americans are better off they're going to have alot less inclination to identify with Africa than IOTL.

Internationally this would matter not though a successful Reconstruction does mean more breathing room for the Native Americans and Spain. A successful Reconstruction would require conscription and military occupation for decades. In OTL a lack of political will by politicians and voters meant Reconstruction languished and was slowly strangled by lack of men a resources. Also prominent generals were more interested in finding glory out West then governing the former Confederacy. However, besides the natives and Spain (and I guess Mexico and the rest of Latin America) will not care because the United States was puny in terms of power.

That being said a longer Reconstruction could mean Marx could be correct when he said the American Civil War would awaken the working class like the American Revolution awakened the bourgeoisie
