Interest in a successful Great Society TL?

Would there be interest in a TL where LBJ has a successful presidency- Vietnam a sideshow, and more restraint on domestic spending at home among others. The POD would be in early 1964. Johnson would win a second term in 1968, but his health holding until 1973 is pretty much ASB.

In God's name, YES!The decadent Republicans shall be cast down, only the most liberal surviving. The GOP shall become the Party of Rockefeller, the Democrats the Party of Johnson. There shall be no trace of conservatism left. We shall carry on until-

Realizes everyone is looking at me

What?

Of course. I was planning on one at some point, but I don't mind seeing it from someone else. If you'd like, you could borrow the title ("A Greater Society").

Vietnam is a must not to have for obvious reasons, and some not perhaps so obvious to others. The protests and disillusion rocked the fabric of American society, and the war drained funds from both the Great Society and Space program and resulted in economic woes come the end of the 60's. I don't think you'd need to reign in domestic spending, though.

Well, my only criteria is a successful LBJ presidency. What was the phrase? "As long as there is plenty, poverty is evil."

Most definitely! (BTW I though you were a dangerous counter-revolutionary capitalist wrecker, why all the Kennedy love and now this?)

Definitely of interest to me.

As far as LBJ's health goes, I've always wondered the extent to which he simply gave up on life after leaving office in '69. Most accounts of his time then don't portray a particularly happy man. Perhaps a more successful presidency would have kept him going a bit longer -- and there's also the fact that he resumed smoking after '69, which couldn't have helped matters considering his history of cardiac problems.

I think it would be interesting for someone to Tackle, I also would like to see someone do a Humphrey wins in 1968 TL

If Vietnam is a sideshow (No increase of advisors, no Tonkin), and he doesn't go back to smoking, wouldn't a successful Great Society MANDATE he live to the end of his second term? After all, he died on Inauguration Day, 1973!

Terrific idea for a TL, BTW!:):D

I think this would be a great timeline. Lyndon B Johnson was a great man, who deserved his presidency to work out in otl.
