Interest in a modern day dystopian timeline?

I've attempted many a timeline and all so far have been ignored and only appeal to a small group. I do intend on finishing some of them some day, but for now I just want to make something to get some respect and learn how to better write timelines, so I want to do something with a lot of appeal before I go on and continue writing my odder timelines.

I figured we all like a good dystopia, For All Time is a personal favorite of this site and A Very Bad Year is a good companion to it. I figured why not add to the depressingly awesome timelines.

The basic idea is for it to look harmless, even debatably better than OTL at the beginning and slowly go down they road from "Well that's not good" and end up hitting the dead end of "Complete train wreck".

It would start in 2004 and end when I've decided the world is screwed enough.

Any interest?

Modern dystopia is nice and all, but TheMann and Blochead already have that period down pat, why not a 1930's Civil war in the US? I can say that it would be something that would interest me. (In my ever so flawed personal opinion.)

I want to do something that wouldn't be hard to research. So I can keep it going easily.

Yes yes yes yes yes. I adored 'A Very bad Year' and I think that something along those lines in 2004 would be great. But no nuclear war! That'd be too easy!

I say we start in 2011. The people who warned about the 2008 meltdown are warning about a commercial paper crash in 2011. Imagine, financial trouble as bad as a few years ago and no more money to stimulate?

Plus more news about the methane trapped in the permafrost and under the arctic is releasing much faster than we thought. Release might cause an increase of up to 5C warming by 2100. That's hugely distopic.

Plus the coming struggle over water.
Our difficulties in refining and pumping enough oil out of the ground (it won't run out for generations, but we can't get at it fast enough) causing energy shocks. A few geopolitical events to stir things up and boom, massive civilizational heartache.

There's no need for nuclear war.
