yeah, I have been doing that for a while. It's amazing how little info there is about the EF in WWI. Only western book that does it justice was the WWI series first written in the 1920's.
Oh yeah Hungary was being silly. They could've had a real sub fleet in 1914, if it wasn't for the Hungarians messing with the naval budget. Imagine of AH subs were waging a somewhat smaller, but similar was in the Med, as the Germans were doing in the North Atlantic in 1914/1915. Might even have gotten some capital ships and troop transports at Gallipoli
I have been reading over the holidays on these types of subjects for my time line, Prince Henry. I am in the slower pre-war details, but it will quickly interesting once I get to August, 1914. I am now in a much better position to answer your questions, but i need a little more detail.
What kind of sub fleet are you imagining? Where is it based? What is the broad strategic goals of the sub fleet?
Broadly speaking, if in merchant warfare, a submarine will sink 250 tons of shipping per patrol day, assuming average German WW2 proficiency. The total per day per ship will be highest in the early days of the war, because apparently the learning curve to using a submarine is easier than the learning curve on anti-submarine warfare.
I can also guarantee that if there are capital ships in the patrol area, and you have at least a squadron (12) submarines ready to go, at least one capital ships sink. Remember, it is a lot like fishing. A good fisherman is the most important variable, but if he is fishing in a swimming pool, the world's best fisherman catches nothing. Likewise, if he is fishing at a fish farm, he catches huge amounts of fish.
