In an alternative timeline/parallel universe where Alan Shepard is the first human to go to space when his spaceship lifted off into a suborbital flight in 24 March 1961 but was overshadowed by Gagarin's orbital feat in 12 April, is it remotely possible that no asteroids and/or lunar craters would be named after Shepard as of that TL's 2017, much like the case of John Glenn in OTL?

For me the above scenario sounds possible when I see a post in link below:

http://www.collectspace.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/004522.html

where it says that:

"Americans have always ended to be relatively modest in naming features, which I always took as admirable modesty in line with our getting there "in peace for all mankind." We didn't name features Mount Washington or the Lincoln Rille, and as I recall none of the base names reflect any attempt to propagandize."

However IMO this assumption is quite shaky in this case so I'm posting here to solicit your advices/opinion on this.

If that TL's Shepard is indeed honored in form of astronomical object naming, I'm counting on main belt asteroid (7864) 1982 EE ended up as "Alanshepard" or "Shepard" as well, so is this sound plausible for you too?
