Does anyone know of anywhere, online ideally or even in books, that I can find any information on Prince Gong's first son Zaicheng about what sort of person he was? I've tried searching and I've come up with nothing apart from the more than likely apocryphal folklore of his going outside the palace to party with the Tongzhi Emperor which lead to the emperor catching sylphalis and dying. Of the exceedingly little I was able to find everything seems to be a copy of the wikipedia pages which is rather annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to research him for a possible timeline where the point of departure is that the Empress Dowager Cixi has an accident or dies naturally in late 1874. This leaves Ci'an as the sole Empress Dowager so when the Tongzhi Emperor dies in January 1875 her suggestion following imperial convention of Prince Gong's son becoming the new emperor is accepted. This has the effect of bringing back the reform minded Prince Gong to power and influence and since the Empress Dowager Ci'an was a fairly quiet woman who kept mostly to herself apart from a few notably rare instances like with An Dehai leaves him as the second most important person at court.

This means China has already suffered defeat in the First and Second Opium Wars but has put mass uprisings like the Taiping or Nien Rebellions behind it and has firmly regained control with a much needed window of breathing space until the Boxer Rebellion (if it happens) and the First Sino-Japanese War to come in 19 years time. However with the new Emperor and his father arriving to give their backing to the second phase of the self-strengthening movement everything is up for grabs. Basically I want to try and get it so that China recovers enough to end the unequal treaties over time and eventually become a regional power or large second rank power.
