Infante Philip Duke of CalabriAA.

So, this is for a timeline I am planning where Philip, Duke of Calabria son of Carlos III of Spain is born without mental defects.

My thinking is that Philip born in 1747, would most likely be betrothed and later marry Archduchess Maria Amalia of Austria who was born in 1746.

Philip would be smart, a talented administrator and someone who would intrigue the lively Maria.

Their children would be:

Carlos, Infante of Spain (b. 1767)

Maria, Infanta of Spain (b. 1769: d. 1770)

Felipe, Infante of Spain (b. 1772)

Maria Theresa of Spain (b. 1775: d. 1777)

Louisa of Spain (b. 1779)

Isabella of Spain (b. 1781)

--------

Now I am thinking of combining this with an earlier thread where the French Republic falls in 1796, and is replaced with a son of Louis XVI, who serves as Louis XVII, my chosen son of Louis XVI is Louis Joseph. I am thinking that perhaps upon his restoration to the throne, Louis XVII marries Isabella of Spain.

Any thoughts on this would be most appreciated.

Sounds like a good timeline. The POD seems to be better health for Louis Joseph and Philip, Duke of Calabria. But what happens in the meantime to make the accession of Louis XVII to his throne possible in 1796?

The French Republic performs terribly during the war of the first coalition and is badly defeated

Well, yeah, but why? I'm trying to get us from "Step 1: Louis Joseph lives" to "Step 3: Republic does poorly in the war." What's Step 2?
Hmm I think step 2 would need to be Louis escapes France, there is Bette the allied cooperation and the allies fund resistance to the republic no?

Well, he would have been 15 then. But his father would have been overthrown when Louis Joseph was age 11. Probably too early for a marriage. Perhaps the regency in exile could negotiate a marriage as part of the allied cooperation agreement? Who's a good candidate?

I agree, hmm at first I was thinking a daughter of Philip. But other candidates could include Maria Luisa who here would be a princess of Naples and Sicily

I suppose they could get betrothed young and marry at 15 or so, in the case of Isabelle. Or the 15 or 14 year-old Philip could have a wife a few years older.

Hmm aye, I suppose a Portuguese candidate could be an option also, perhaps Maria Isabel of Braganza daughter of Maria I, though she is five years older than Louis Joseph.

I find myself leaning toward a daughter of Felipe VI of Spain.

I said Philip in my post but meant Louis Joseph. I'm just wondering about the politics of the different alliances. I'm not sure a Spanish intervention would have done very much to stop the revolutionaries.

Hmm this is true, Russia gave a lot of support to the monarchists as did Britain and the Empire as well.
