Indonesian Superpower

I was watching a program about the giant hindu/buddhist monuments in Indonesia/South East Asia. It had a good mix of Buddhist/Hindu influences up to about the 1400's and then it had a good mix of Muslims as well.

I was thinking that with such a mix of religions/disaparate Kindoms would create a few academic influences a bit like Ancient Greece.

WI? During the dark ages a paticular kingdom/enigmatic king captured most of the Indonesian archpeligo/South Phillipines/Malaysia/Papua New Guniea/North Australia and a few bits of Siam and Indochina, a kind of Ghengis Khan of the sea. He creates a empire that lasts for 30-50 years meaning that a more common language prevails and their is vastly increased trade between the islands. The empire then collapses and more local rulers come into being, although still larger than the original kindoms.
It might require a empire strengthened by China/India maritime trade and when China/Indian empires collapse into a civil war they turn too military exspansion.

Using increased trade/varied kingdoms/many tiny countries forming some kind of informal alliance too stop Chinese/Indian agression they also develop a early series of colleges that lead too some new inventions. They also drive towards a series of S.E Asia explorers/discoverys leading to even more trade and ideas.
They produce 3/4 very strong kingdoms vying for power/trade and colonies by about the 12th century.
They then rival Europe as a possibility for overseas exspansion conquering large tracts of India, China, S.America, East Africa and Australia.

How would this effect Colonialism and a Industrial/Cultural revelution?
Is a Industrial Revelotion in Indonesian Empires possible or maybe a European IR that is quickly copied by Indonesia so their is no major advantage too Europe?
