Hello all
How do you see the History of South Asia develop if the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European pastoral migrants settled down in the vast and Naturally rich region bordering Indian subcontinent and the Central Asia?In our timeline, this civilization didn't come up very due to infighting between the Indo-Iranian and the Indo-Aryan people who are the founders and make up a majority of the demographics of the Indian Subcontinent region containing India,Pakistan,Afghanistan,Bangladesh,Sri Lanka and Nepal. Pure Natives are a very small group in India and I doubt a civilization without the Indo-Aryans would have developed to this magnitude.I can tell you this as I have lived in Bangalore in the heart of Southern India since birth. Only in extremely interior regions you can find people who don't have many lighter skinned members in their close circle extended families which is the case even in Tamil Nadu contrary to popular belief. Most of the people(80+%) are of the Indo-Aryan and Indo-Iranian type. Some are darker but most of us mid olive to light. It is the same distribution in both Indo-European and Dravidian languages speakers.I doesn't matter much anyway but just to highlight the Historical points I brought this up.
Coming back, how would you see the timeline if a strong unified Civilization like the Romans sprang up instead off these tribes destabilizing? It would encompass green Himalayan foothills and river valleys of India,Pakistan(modern day),Afghanistan(modern day) eventually expanding southwards into the more sunny and fertile regions. In the way, they would assimilate the neighbouring Iranian/Aryan peoples like Scythians,Pashtuns,White Huns,Kushans(this actually happened later but read on to find why this would be different) and eventually even the Non-Indo European people present in the Subcontinent. Both language families would survive as in OTL just like the native languages survived and thrived in the Roman Empire. With this less frictions between the Indo-Europeans and the natives, right caste system doesn't develop as in OTL. In the RigVedic era also called the Early Vedic period, rigid organized religion didn't exist.Women had good rights and there was a good direction in every development. An abrupt geological upheavel is said to have contributed this turmoil. This would mean that this Empire would rise to great heights and wouldn't collapse into a more 'Medieval like' India as it happened in OTL before the Muslim and European arrivals as it would be given an excellent chance in its formative time unlike OTL.
Now coming to the interesting parts, how would the greater old-World be like? This empire would be a barrier against the violent central Asian invasions which devastated indirectly Roman empire and later directly the classical Middle East.
The Persian and Iranian Empires and their people are more secure and this would lessen out the chances of Greek/Roman-Persian conflicts that devastated both in OTL.
The way I see it,the whole old-World would be far less turbulent than in OTL. Wars and conflicts would be there no doubt but way more subsided.
So how would we have fared in the World?Possibly no more brutal conflicts and wars that happened later.Would we be far more advanced than today?Possibly 1000-1500 years ahead than OTL in Science,Technology and Society?
