Indian Partition

I raised this question in a thread earlier, but thought to make one for it's self.

Every end point I've seen brought up is an India dominated Imperial Legislative body, as well as the partitioning of Pakistan on religious lines. So what about a more economic partition of India?

Split Northern India, in half at the Yumana river, east west, then mid-India split e-w at the Chhattisgarh western border, and finally southern India, all as Dominions? Even have India split 3 ways.

Why? There was zero demand for a geographic partition of India. (Yes, there was a Tamil separatist movement in the 1950s, but that was post-independence, not pre-independence.) All the Hindu regions of the subcontinent (and even some Muslim areas, like the NWFP) were strongholds of the Indian National Congress.

Partition into India and Pakistan didn't happen just because –*it happened because the Muslim League captured enormous support in the Muslim community and pushed for partition.
