India joins the Axis

...whether under Bose or not under Bose, India manages to declare independence from Britain and announces that they are joining the Axis.

(yes, I realize that this likely means the UK is siphoning off soldiers from India to the European, African, and Pacific theaters)

Would something like this be sufficient for nervous American officials to add another group to the internment camps?
(Japanese, some Germans and Italians, and now Indians)

if not, what would it take?

ps: yes, I suspect that the post-War situation for India is going to be far from roses, vis-a-vis Britain.

Come on, you really think that Indians are going to join the Axis? I doubt that, since people in the British Empire knew all the things Hitler had been doing for the last 6 years. Of course, Japs knew them too and allied with the Nazis...

Immediate civil war. Too many factions are involved in the Indian Independence movement to get them to agree on something like this.

thank you both for the swift reply.

I figured it wouldn't last long (or be stable)

But would anybody outside the Dominions and British Empire feel that they need to react to it?
(its for a short dysotopia)

For India to manage to declare independent earlier is one thing, but join the Axis.... I think you need India to be ruled by some crazy fascist expansionists that are sure Ceylon, Myanmar, Afghanistan and even parts of the Malaysia is rightful Indian territory to pull this of.

I wonder whether we could get a Soviet-Indian front ITTL? After all, there is not that much distance between India (now Pakistan) and the Tajik SSR. However, it's a mountainous area of neutral Afghanistan. If Japanese 'advisers' are involved in India (likely IMO) then we may have an earlier Soviet declaration of war on Japan.

China is also definitely going to go a different way...

Oh! The brits knew? Probably that was the reason why Chamberlain thought Hitler to be a reasonable man that could be trusted.
