Independent Tirolian Republic?

Could this be feasible?

The Tirolian Republic was separated from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, taking the western half of OTL's Austria, plus a small piece of Italy (Alto Adiga) and Trieste.

In Europe, the revolutions of 1848 have left France and Bavaria as Republics, loosely allied with Tirol in defense against Prussia and Austro-Hungary.

You'd need one hell of a POD to make the Upper Adige be part of a political unit called Italy in the period; and I suspect by Trieste they mean the Trentino.

That nitpick aside I have actually no idea, Tyrol was essentially the Austrian Vendée and I doubt they'd go for a separate republic. Weirder things have happened, though, and Leopold II was, as grand duke of Tuscany, generally a liberal.

A separation might be possible if Tyrol somehow manages to overthrow Habsburg rule, and the rest of the Austrian Hereditary Lands doesn't (or doesn't want to). But that would be more of a pragmatic division than one based on an own identity.

But note that German democrats in the 19th century were all strongly nationalist; so neither Tyrolers nor Bavarians nor any other German region would stop after establishing their own little republic. They all would try to go for all of Germany.
