Is it possible for some time in the 20th Century for an independent Sicily to form. If it does form during the century, how would it be economically and socially after independence and into modern day.
I think a likely Independence date would be 1943-1950
Sources, please?Actually there was legitimate fear that Italy would go Red after WWII, and the Sicilian people were much more conservative than the mainlanders. The USA actually had contingencies planned to either provide for a republic of Sicily, or even in the more extreme (but AWESOME) case, statehood within the Union. The latter is probably a bit ASB, but none-the-less, crazysillyfun to think about.
