Independent Republic of Pontus?

Well, this is the WWI segment. I'm not sure how plausible it is.

I can't get that link to work.

Anyway, maybe if there were major population transfers between areas and the proposed Republic's borders were reduced, this would be possible. Even then it is pushing it. According to the Ottoman Census at the time, the Turkish population was large, if not overwhelming.

Another problem is that the proposal at the site proposes territorial concessions without offering the borders involved or providing the actual names of the provinces claimed by the Greeks, Armenians or others so a precise breakdown is impossible to determine.

I can, however, say with certainty that the Turks were a majority in every province mentioned in 1914 and the vast majority in some cases.

The Russians wouldn't create Pontus, because the Russian army would have to stay to protect the Pontic Greeks from the Turkish majority.
