Independent Hyderabad

How could we avoid operation polo without using a Japanese victory to butter fly away the integrationist nature of the new Indian regime?

some background Information to topic

The Nizam of Hyderabad was a former mogul state in central India

in 1947 the ruler Nizam, Osman Ali Khan. Refuse to join Union of India or Pakistan
he wandet that Hyderabad remain a independent state
but india army invaded the state on 13 september 1948 (code name Operation POLO)

interesting POD is here 24 August 1948, Hyderabad formally asked the Secretary General of the new United Nations Organization, help under Article 32.
But what if the U.N. accepted the territorial sovereignty of Hyderabad and offer peace keeping forces against india ?

Some sort of Mega-Lesotho?

Pretty difficult considering a). The people had a Hindu majority who wanted to be part of India, there was even a failed assassination attempt of the Nizam, and b). India considered Hyderabad a great threat. A huge potentially hostile nation at the heart of the country, not particularly desirable.

A United Nations intervention would probably lead to a plebiscite, where the Hindus would win.
