Independent East Prussia?

Is it possible, with a POD during or after WWI, to have both a staunchly Republican Germany and an imperial, Kaiser-ruled independent East Prussia?

I asked the exact same question some weeks ago. These are the responses I got:
Very, very hard to imagine. Germany would need to be conquered WW2 style for that to happen.
I agree it would probably mean a clearer allied victory and also if attempts were made to split Germany into successor states I doubt that would be considered as one.

Oh, hey, really? Well, I was thinking of a TL on the subject, so....in your personal opinion, is it ASB to have the Allies conquer Germany in such a way?

I'm not an expert on the later parts of WW1, but I could see it happen if the Entente refused when Germany asked for an armistice. The Entente would recapture Belgium, probably even capture Elsass-Lothringen. That and some other conquests might result in a german surrender.

Then again, why would they create East Prussia? It's far from France/Britain, Russia was in a civil war so they couldn't have secured the region either. Poland was created after the OTL WW1; it resulted in Soviet-Polish war in 1920, where Poland had to fight for its independence. East Prussia would be so small that it would be outright crushed.

A small alternate-historian inside me wants to see a plausible way, since it's a very cool concept, but I'm afraid it isn't possible.

I suppose it might be plausible in a world where Germany was conquered by Spartakists/other assorted left wing groups in the immediate aftermath of the Great War - however I have difficulty seeing that eventuality as particularly likely unless we had a Russian-style collapse, which probably means that the war drags on for a few months longer. Were this to happen the Entente powers may sponsor East Prussia as a Taiwan/RoC analogue.

East Prussia lacked an industrial base to support a military. It would however have a lot of fortifications left over from WWI and would be more than capable of feeding itself. However, Wilhelm II was Kaiser if Germany and King of Prussia ( east and West Prussia)

East Prussia, AFAIK, was far from to be more loyal area to the Hohenzollern. Compared to other regions east of the Elbe, it had a more significant amount of independent farmers, as opposed to Junker nobles, and those farmers had some tradition of corporative organization and opposition to the higher Estates. The area had some interesting chance to go Republican in any case.
