Increased Brazilian immigration

What would it take to bring much larger waves of Brazilian immigrants to the United States during the past century? How would a more substantial Brazilian presence in the United States develop? What kind of culture would the Brazilian Americans form, and how would they interact with other American ethnic and minority goups?

To increase Brazilian immigration? Worse economical crisis in Brazil. Although some people already left the country after WW2, the peak of Brazilian emigration was in the 80's (the lost decade) and early 90's. If you want more people leaving, then avoid the growing economy of the 50's, the "Brazilian miracle" of the late 60's and early 70's, the "Real Plan" in 1994... A harsher dictatorship would help too.

For differences in the USA because there are more Brazilians, I don't know... More cities like Newark?:D

Where do Brazilian Americans fit in as part of the American pie? Do they consider themselves "Latinos" or are they their own group?

Good question. I know many people who consider themselves different from the rest of South Americans(different language, different miscegenation(sp?) - more white/black miscegenation than white/indian), but I don't know whether most Brazilians consider themselves different(I think so, but I'm not sure). I think, however, they would be considered Latinos in the USA, just as they are in OTL.
