Inca Empire

In an ATL in which Manco Inca successfully besieged Cuzco in 1536, could anyone imagine the Inca Empire actually surviving. If Manco had successfully manipulated the Pizarro-Almagro divide then he could he have learned Spanish techniques to his own advantage.

If he had been successful I could imagine the English coming to Peru at some point to help the Incas act as a bulwark against Spanish expansion in South America. With the adaptation of Western weaponry, one could see an Inca Empire surviving in a different form.

Any thoughts?

Their size and location did make the Incas difficult to conquer. Not a simple epidemic that destroyed the Aztecs. I don't think the Inca would have lasted until today, but they might have advanced a bit, learning how to work metals other than bronze and precious.

The only thing the English cared about in the New World was stealing Spanish gold. They couldn't have cared less about the Inca Empire.

Yes, I can. Its unlikely, but possible. I think its unlikely not because of invaders, but due to internal collapse. The Inca weren't particularly stable as a government (having each and every dead emperor and all his relatives competing for resources and no strict rules of succession can do that), and had a lot of pent up anger against it. The various local tribes which had been added to the empire weren't particularly loyal to the empire, and its likely that with the weakening of the central government by epidemic many of these groups will use the opportunity to leave.

However if they found a foreign backer (like the British or Portuguese perhaps) and managed to stabilize themselves internally, they might be able to survive for quite a while.

I used a similar scenario in my The Guns of the Tawantinsuya timeline. The Inca manage to survive long enough for Francis Drake to find them in 1581, then make an alliance with the English against the Spanish. The English get access to Inca gold and Inca ports on the South American coast from which they can operate against the Spanish. The Inca get access to European goods and weapons.
