In Soviet Russia, Deck Shuffles You

And that's that. Thank you all for your very kind words. I'll now be doing a bit of tinkering here and there, based on corrections and feedback received.

I had to go and look up the Harry Potter stuff as I knew it was too weird to be fictional. Also, I apparently share music tastes with Medvedev, which is a bit concerning.

That was brilliant. I feel kinda sorry for Gorby; it's a pity he had to play the bad guy; defenestration is always hilarious, as is a mention of Dobby going (even more?) insane.

It wouldn't be Shuffling the Deck without the irony of Gorbachev being the coup leader. ;)

As for Dobby, I figured that since OTL Medvedev is a major Harry Potter fan, why not have him write a House Elf Revolution?

This TL really makes me want to go through with my TLIAD idea of Korea's 12 republics over a 100 years...
but I haven't even finished my two original TLs yet...

I've now got an idea for a more serious timeline about a Stalin who stays with the priesthood. Unfortunately, I simply don't have the time at the moment to do it justice (so many ideas, so little time...). It would probably be a small-scale piece though, focussing as it would on the line and times of an obscure cleric.

This. Was. Awesome. Judo-flipping Gorby out of a window, Stalin the Priest, and Malenkov...worth remembering! As is TTL, to be honest; a nice shift from the elected leaders Shuffling the Deck has hitherto focused on (though in encouraging me to get a move on writing my NZ version, it's a return to that style).

Full marks.

OK, have altered Khrushchev to make him a leader of a sort of joint Bolshevik-Social Revolutionary grouping (he isn't strictly a Bolshevik organisationally anyway, just a young guy with Big Ideas). And have put in references to food confiscation alienating the peasants. Hopefully that's enough handwaving to cover the major holes in the first post.

The scene with Putin throwing Gorbachev out a window is pure awesome, straight out of a blockbuster action movie.

I liked the whole TL, it's great. 11/10 will read again.

Please excuse the bumping but I just wanted to say this was excellent. Worthy of the format/trends initiators.

Its inspired me to attempt a TL of my own.

Shouldn't Putin be the President until the Present day? Well OTL he was against many oligarchs destroying OTL Russia. He was also good in building a power base. He reformed Russia. Credits to him.

Question: Would a world without Lenin ruling the revolution have killed the Romanovs?

https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=124585&page=3

In my own interpretation, they only died due to Lenin leading the revolution.

One of the later updates (the one after the Red Priest, I think) mentioned the exiled (and, by then, very elderly) former tsar. So he wasn't killed (at least not in the 1910s) ITTL; presumably his kids weren't killed either.

Incidentally, just found this, and great story.
