I'm not disputing your reasoning about why he committed suicide, BUT...there is no evidence he was brave either. In fact he may not have been brave at all in WW1, as there is evidence he was a regimental runner and shielded from most of the action. His Iron Crosses seem to have come from a couple of incidents where he was told by and officer (who was Jewish BTW) that if the message got through to higher command he'd get a medal for it. According to Hitler he saw first had the effect of artillery fire and dodged some close calls, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a coward, rather it means he survived a series of bad situation in a safer job by WW1 standards.I think the Neo-Nazi cause would be much stronger in this case. Hitler is often represented as a coward, which is wrong, IMO. Don't get my wrong, I hate Hitler, but he wasn't a coward.
Posted to the Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment 16 (1st Company of the List Regiment),[55][54] he served as a dispatch runner on the Western Front in France and Belgium,[56] spending nearly half his time well behind the front lines.[57][58]
Recommended by Hugo Gutmann, he received the Iron Cross, First Class, on 4 August 1918, Hitler's post at regimental headquarters, providing frequent interactions with senior officers, may have helped him receive this decoration.[61] Though his rewarded actions may have been courageous, they were probably not highly exceptional.[62]
From the 9th November 1914 until the end of the war, served Hitler as orderly and messengers between regimental headquarters and battalion staffs of 1.5 to 5 km distance from the main line of the Western Front . [40] Contrary to his later view it was not a particularly vulnerable near the front messengers of a battalion or a company and had far better chances of survival than the latter. [41]
Later praise of Hitler's supposed camaraderie and bravery by fellow soldiers considered implausible, since they ensure the NSDAP functionaries rewarded with items and money.
As well all know Hitler was full on crazy by 1945. What if he went out to die in battle rather than kill himself. What would he be thought of as if he did. Everybody would still know he was wacko but would Neo-Nazi's be stronger or weaker in this scenario.
The same as it currently is; when his death was announced, it was said that he died fighting on the front line – and there are Neo-Nazis who still believe that nonsense. Nazism was already thoroughly discredited by then anyway, the fact that Hitler spent his last days in a bunker makes little difference.
