'In a corner' Charles killed 1647 or 48

In OTL at least one of the 'regicides' was proud to state that they acted openly and not 'in a corner' (as had other kiliings of English KIngs had been)

Now had Charles I been poisoned, or died 'escaping' what would have occured

Could Charles II have done a deal?

Charles II has always struck me as a surviour I am sure if it was politically expediant for him to ignore rumours of who killed his father he would have.

However I can also see him waiting until the person named in the rumours was vunerable and then taking his revenge.
