David Duke narrowly winning the governorship of Louisiana is not ASB; it came pretty close to happening. But I have trouble with the Presidential scenario. I don't think Perot would have picked Duke as a running mate unless Duke had sent serious messages to the public and to the black community that he, like Governor Wallace, had broken with his bigoted past. And who would have believed Duke? Also the division of the Republican "anger" vote into a Duke camp and a Buchanan camp seems a bit odd: wouldn't they all rally round one candidate?

How on earth did Duke get 35% of the Republican primary vote in New Hampshire?!?!...with Buchanan getting 25% of the vote at the same time? That means far-right candidates are getting 60%. The Republican party isn't THAT crazy.
