Impeach Wilson!

No, not a thread about getting rid of this guy.:p (Or this guy.)

After reading this, it appears Woodrow Wilson could have been impeached for failing to fulfill his Oath of Office--defend & uphold the Constitution.

So, what would it have taken to impeach him? To convict him? And what would the impact have been if he was?

If Americans in 1913-21 had cared nough about Black rights to impeach a President over it, he probabaly wouldn't have risked segregating the Departments, and the issue would never have arisen. It's the sort of thing that getds done "because I can".

Nor would a SCOTUS of that period be likely to hold such segregation unconstitutional.

Maybe what you have is the mobilization for WWI is sufficiently disrupted that the US fails to get any number of troops worth mentioning into Europe in time for Second Marne. Now I doubt this would win the war but if things are fouled up enough then US forces could be much less a help and more a hindrance leading to a bloody stalemate and successful revolution in Germany. If all that happens with lots of American boys dying in France to make Europe Communist that could be enough to get him run out of town on a rail.

The first is true. The second is irrelevant, since it's Congress that decides.

I don't say it would be easy, & indeed, I'm not entirely sure it's even possible--which is why I'm raising it.

There is little or no chance of Wilson being removed over civil rights.

No Southern Senator would cast a vote that could be seen as pro civil rights and thus no way to get to 2/3rds.

Even if they had reasons for wanting Wilson out they'd never do it.

So what would be the reason for the impeachment of Wilson? Certainly not southern anguish over Wilson being elected president.

I don't suppose there are enough frustrated Northerners?
