Impact on Ethiopian civil war with a larger Cuban force

Why would they need to send 55,000 Cuban troops to Ethiopia? It was only really in Eritrea and Tigray where the insurgencies were gaining steam by the '80s, especially with the close-run Operation Red Star which saw Ethiopian forces nearly take the Eritrean People's Liberation Front's Command Center at Nakfa. If something goes right and the EPLF collapses under pressure, I can definitely see the backbone of the insurgency being broken and the Derg successfully consolidating its hold over Eritrea - Tigray will soon follow.

To answer your question, I assume it would lead the USA to continue furnishing aid to Barre's Somalia in cooperation with other pro-Somalia countries in the ME.

Maybe saudis arm and supply Somalis on behest of USA ?
Then what , can we see a saudi Ethiopian confrontation in the red sea ?

I was thinking the Soviets and Cubans op to go all out like in Angola.
If Saudis and Egyptians arm Somalis and to completely eject socialist from horn of Africa and capture substantial parts of Ethiopia. Then there is a possibility of a Cuban, libya, south yemen and warsaw pact aiding Ethiopia in arms and mercenaries to counter heavy Egyptian/ saudi support and war could rage on in the horn for many years and even spill over across the red sea into Yemen.
