Impact of German nuke

That's due to the shame of Nazism and the Holocaust. Germans are pathologically afraid of national pride because of how tied it was to the Nazis as well as the losses of WWI under the Kaiser. It's one of the main reasons they support the EU.
I once read of a German lumber company which considered using "Holz mit stolz" ("Wood with pride") as an advertising slogan - and decided they just couldn't.

This is a stereotype though. Most Americans think Japan is all this weird techno craziness, anime, school girls, Pokémon, and colorful costumes.

That’s like saying all of America is like Hollywood, Kardashians, NBA, or the Simpsons.

Japan is a normal country with normal people. Yes there culture has a different work ethic. And yes, it has more Asian influences than western influences. But people saying Japan is a weird country only look at the pop culture that’s exported here.

My immigrant grandfather who came to the US in the 1950s told me how shocking that the US wasn’t like the US he saw in films

The pop culture is one thing. But there is a lot of Japanese weirdness foreigners never hear about unless they live there. (Or read about it from a foreigner who lives in Japan.) I.e. traditional religious festivals where participants march in procession carrying giant wooden penises. Or Kancho Assassin.

I've seen enough tentacle hentai to know where this is going...

On the level, I like Japan and the Japanese, I was visiting friends and family there late last year. They are a lovely friendly people.

One of the best books I've read is "The Clash: U.S.-Japanese Relations Throughout History" by Walter LaFeber. Take the start of the Pacific War, in mid 1941, at US Cabinet level it was decided to put pressure on Japan by limiting oil shipments. At this meeting it was acknowledged that cutting oil would cause war. Assistant Secretary of State Dean Acheson creatively interpreted the instructions to cut the oil shipments. When it was realised that supplies to Japan had been cut it was felt that opening them up again would send the wrong message as a back down. Now on the conveyor belt to war, when the Japanese invasion fleets were on their way south, Roosevelt was going to ask Congress to declare Armed Neutrality from Monday Dec 8th, similar to what was active in the Atlantic. That Japan was about to attack was obvious but the US leadership expected attacks on US ships in China, not as far away as Hawaii. Planning in Hawaii was on how to bait the IJN to come to the central Pacific so the USN could fight it, not wholly crap we are the first hit! None of the various Rainbow Plans envisaged the fall of Singapore or the Malay/NEI barrier. Japanese success on this scale was not anticipated. Not even the Japanese anticipated it.

The Clash is the the most even handed books on the US-Japan relationship that covers the whole relationship and not just WW2.

I think if you have a nuke deployed on Germany in World War 2, you will have the Neutral Germany that Stalin desired. ITTL Germany will have much less desire to remain as part of the Western Bloc. An early reunification could prevent the economic miracle, on the other hand, Germany could take advantage of trading with both blocs.

I don't think that's going to happen unless the nuke target happens to be Bad Honnef. And even then, you'd need the WAllies to agree to Stalin's proposal.
