Hey AH, fun premise for you. Let's assume (ASB aside) that the ACW ends in the CSA becoming independent. Assuming that this nation continues into the late 20th century or even to the present day, what does this kind of split on the North American continent do to American music as we know it? I'd imagine that country music would likely become as prominent as it is now in the South, but would the U.S. likewise "boycott" this music due to the perceived inability to identify with its lyrical content? Especially if both nations are still on bad terms? Or would cultural exchange occur across the borders regardless of the political situation of both nations? Would the South become a "hotbed" of musical and cultural advance in the late 20th century? (Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Mississippi Delta, Jacksonville = blues, gospel, country/western, contemporary country, jazz, "muddy water" blues, rock n' roll, Southern rock, etc?)
