Impact of Alexander the Great dying in battle

In this alternate timeline, Alexander the Great dies in battle at some point. The POD can be anywhere from Anatolia to the arrow injury in what is now Pakistan. What are the ramifications??? I am no expert but I know enough to know his generals got involved in a lot of infighting.

The POD matters hugely. If he dies early on, the Achaemenid empire probably survives while the Macedonian generals duke it out and the Greek poleis rise up in rebellion. If he dies after killing Dareios but before actually conquering most of the Achaemenid empire, the Macedonian generals still duke it out, but there's probanly an Achaemenid civil war / succession struggle at the same time. The Achaemenids (or whoever seizes the Persian throne) probably lose Anatolia, Egypt and Syria to Macedonian successors, but Persia itself never gets a foreign Seleucid dynasty. If Alexander dies at a later stage, closer to his OTL death, you get an altervative succession struggle amongst his generals over pretty much the same geographical area.

The only thing we can be fairly certain of is that it's going to be a mess. The earlier Alexander dies, the more localised that mess is going to be. The later he dies, the more far-spread it will be.
