1967 - Despite loss of air force (easy POD to fix, turn radar coverage to sea after civilian plane showed the hole),
I doubt it would've made a lot of difference if the EAF hadn't been demolished on the ground. Israeli Mirages were much better armed than most MIGs and, with more efficient ground crews, could be readied for new missions much faster than Egyptian jets.
Egyptian Army holding despite lack of Air Cover. Then ill considered withdrawal order comes in as a mass retreat.
The Egyptian Army certainly wasn't holding prior to the retreat order. By the 6th, its frontier positions had been overrun and the reserves, from the 4rth, were beaten at Laftan. In his
Arabs at War Pollack wrote that the decision to retreat was justified and not the cause of defeat. It was just carried out poorly.
Syrian shatter Israeli lines then a division commander pauses long enough to allow Israelis to recover.
More than one division commander stopped prematurely. The Syrians probably could have overrun the whole Golan or at least reached the Jordan river crossings. But after their initial losses breaking through, I don't know if they had enough strength left to hold out against Israeli reserves, backed by superior airpower.
Invincible Israeli army was simply a myth.
I never said it was invincible, just very hard to beat.
