Inspired by the similar thread about US politics. On that thread, cryhavoc wrote:
Very close cooperation with the Canadian Government and suddenly very large Royal Canadian Navy
And the implications of this on Canadian politics are interesting to consider. The US would want the most pro-US Canadian politicians in power, and in the 1940s this would mean the Liberals.
On the other hand, the pro-British Tories were also pretty gung-ho about being anti-Nazi, for obvious reasons, so assuming in this scenario that the UK hasn't gone Nazi, the Yanks might figure they can live with a Conservative government as well. Though the more loyalist-nationalist tendencies of the Conservatives would be kept on a short leash.
Quebec nationalism of the reactionary-clerical variety would be utterly discredited, given that it's main issue during the war had been opposing conscription. But this might actually lead to an earlier rise of LEFT-WING nationalism in Quebec, if the Union Nationale is tossed out in the 1940s, thus leading to an earlier Quiet Revoluttion.
The Social Credit goverment of Alberta, while not having been notably against the war effort, would still probably have to abandon the Douglasite ideology(extolled by Ezra Pound on Italian radio) a few years earlier than in OTL, and would likely have to change its name. They might actually be able to remain in power, however, since with a Nazified Russia right next door to Alaska, the Americans and their allies in Ottawa would want a compliant, pro-business regime overseeing the pivotal oil industry.
No British Columbia Social Credit Party emerges in this scenario.
