Decisive Darkness: What if Japan hadn't surrendered in 1945? by @The_Red

STOCKADE_in_Okinawa.jpg

The Ryukyuan people were almost compared as the Hawaiians natives prior to the US annexation. They were almost considered as second citizens in Japan as many ethnic minorities in the US, with reports that some locals were even killed by Japanese soldiers went hearing the Ryukyuan language, thinking that said language was a sign of spies.

Unlike with the previous occupiers, the Ryukyuan could now express their language and culture prior to the Japanese annexation. While initially untrusted by the now rulling United States Military Government of the Ryukyu Islands, as they were most co-operative compared to the average japanese, the US would support both civilians and militia units. Outside of military bases, they would help in catching any Japanese fugitives and few holdouts still active in the island alongeside some American (and Commonwealth) forces send to help. To arm said militias, they were given mostly captured rifles and light machine guns, with handguns been US-made revolvers, and they part of said job is just to scout, spot and start the engagement, as the accompaning Allied forces would to most of the real dirty work.

While in some areas, many civilians were forced to leave their homes, the US (under the eye of the United Nations) gave them some housing homes to said civilians, to most part, help in their co-operation, preventing any rebellion cell to be form in the first place and to be seen as the "good guy" compared to their previous occupiers, and also to provide the Allies with "cheap labor". While to this day, the hoped independent Ryushu Islands is far, far away, they nonenless are considered in Washington D.C as American as a New Yorker or a Californian.

Last days of the Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless in US service, on VMSB-243, Philippines 1945

When the US Navy began receiving their first AD Skyraiders, AM Maulers and Kaiser-Fleetwings BTKs (plus SB2C-5 (and Canadian SBW-5) and -6 Helldivers), they relegated their stock of older Helldivers to the US Marines VMSB Groups (even the ones now onboard the "Marines Carriers" - a name given to escort carriers carrying the Marines Carrier Air Groups). In tears and cries, they have to said goodbye to their beloved Dauntless, the aircraft that in many Americans eyes, saved their bacon in early/mid-1942. But the aircrafts would still fight until the end of the war, now flying in the Philippines Army Air Corps, still bombing the few Japanese holdouts in their home country.

On the suggestion of its Ambassador to Washington, Alberto Tarchiani, Italy formanly declared war on Japan on 14 July 1945, with the sole purpose to persuade the Allies that Italy should be invited to the San Francisco Peace Conference, as a reward for its co-belligerence. However, the British Prime Minister Churchill and John Foster Dulles were against the idea. But with Clement Attlee running the British government, and the need to put more pressure against Japan, they abliged as long as Italy would follow up with military support.

The Kingdom of Italy, reluntantly, would ablige to this, but with a war weary population nearly bringing the government down, they were forced to ask for volunteers. With this, only a cruiser division (divided itself) and a transport squadron (flying Dakota III) were send to fight in the Indian Ocean, arriving in November 1945. The ships, two Duca degli Abruzzi-class light cruisers were used for combat duties (Combat Force - or CF), while Luigi Cadorna and Raimondo Montecuccoli (also light cruisers) were used as fast transports with self defense capabilies (Transport Force - TF - all ships are from the Condottieri-class cruiser, been sub-classes compared to its sisters).

The CF were to perform escort missions (many times with the TF unit), search and rescue and shore bombardment missions. In the latter part, they participated in both Operation Mailfist (the liberation of Singapore) and Operation Oboe 4 (invasion of Batavia, Java island). With them came a new addition: SOC Seagull's. While most navies were dropping the catapult in their ships, the Italians would still hold on to it up to the end of the war, and with their previous IMAM Ro.43 been harder to supply, they bought the closest biplane that the UN had: the Seagull, as the US Navy were replacing them with Seahawks and Columbia JL aircrafts. They (alongeside the Dakotas) also had a roundel equal to their Co-belligerent Air Force, but with the red removed, leaving only the green/white circles (similar to the British/Australian SEAC ones)

Flag of the Principality of Andorra (1278 - 1945)

Andorra was one of the smallest nations of the world, been called at that time a microstate, been bordered by both France and Spain. In 1512 (left the next year) and of Napoleon expansions in 1812-1814, the Principality of Andorra remained independente without problems. This all changed in the 1930's.

After the Great Depression, the 1933 Andorra Revolution and the Boris Skossyreff attempt to rule the nation in 1934, things seems to calm down, until the start of the Spanish Civil War, just two years later, and France wanted to temporarily occupie the nation to prevent Franco to occupy the nation. While the Nationalists would lose the war, the Socialists expansionalist ideas of the victorious Republicans forced France to continue its occupation, even as Germany invaded and occupied the nation, with now Vichy France occupied Andorra until Case Anton, and Germany fully occupied.

On August 12 1944, the Republic of Spain declared war on Germany and launch it's attack on the Germans units in the Pyrenees mountain regions, to distract them from Operation Dragoon. In such attack, the Principality was fully liberated, and declared war the next day - only to both nations learn of the Separate Peace and all Axis forces in France were leaving their former occupied territory back home. Infuriating, the Andorrans declared the treaties that formed the Principality were now null, and declared the Andorran Republic, and after an year of independence, with near 75% vote in favor, they were incorporated into the Catalan state of the Republic of Spain, ending the near 700-years of independence.

ogaden.jpg

An photo taken during the Ogaden War, off pro-Somalian rebels in the Ogaden region of Ethiopia (both UN members)

Another know reasons for the failure of the United Nations to hold the continent of Africa were their choosing of leaders, ethnicities and thrust issues.

The UN wanted to keep a near status quo after the fall of the Western Allies in early 1950's, with gradual independence little by little, but many nations (such as France, Portugal and Belgium), refused such moves, to the point of near sabotage, while in the meantime, many rebels forces in the old continent (some Socialists, some neutrals), seek assistance from the Moscow Pact as they way to gain a faster independence. In the Africans nations in which governments were pro-UN, they were lead to strong but rutheless dictators that wanted more power, sometimes at the expense of their neigbours (even if they are others UN members or neutral nations, which lead such nations to either leave the organization, or joining the enemy).

With this, the United Nations loses is power every single day until the end of Operation Just Defence, with the pro-UN Angolan government send to exile, while the entire African continent (apart from Madagascar) been liberated from their tirany (while in the same time, falling into their own President-for-life governments - some still rulling to this day, all be it, with a smaller iron fist than their UN counterparts). Near half of the independent states joined the Moscow Pact, with the remainer declaring neutrality.

Protocolo_de_R%C3%ADo.jpg

The signing of the Rio Protocol, mid-1941

In May 1941, as tensions at the Ecuadorian-Peruvian border mounted and war was imminent, the governments of the United States, Brazil, and Argentina offered their services in aiding in the mediation of the dispute. With the war in Europe, Africa and China expanding and a looming formulating in the Pacific, the US didn't want another occuring in their continent. But the US and the ABC powers (Argentina, Brazil and Chile) couldn't find a solution to stop Peru and Ecuador gearing up to conflict. But a answer came not from the US, not from the ABC powers, and neither from the near waring nations. It came from Mexico.

While Mexico is at war with Germany (on paper, as the units intended for Europe would never arrive in time), they would spare some diplomats to see the issue with the Ecuador-Peruvian border, and they send their proposal to all participants. In an incredible long shot, it landed right and both Peru and Ecuador governments agreed to this, adverting the war, on July 4.

On December 6 1941, under the eyes of the Mediators, the last milestone was placed, which signified the end of a century old border dispute, which brought together the integration between the two countries through the 0°0' parallel in the Loreto region, that from there goes down to the Zarumilla River through Tiwinza to the north of Peru. Two days later, in a way off gratitude with the US, both nations declared war on the Empire of Japan, and the next day, on Germany and Italy.

ingrao2.jpg

Pietro Ingrao was an Italian communist politician and journalist who was Prime Minister of Italy in the late seventies and eighties. Participated in anti-fascist actions since 1939, and since 1942 a member of the Communist Party. He joined the Central Committee in 1956, and from 1972 took the post of general secretary as a result of an internal party struggle, where he led a coalition advocating the incorporation of left-wing radical protesters into the structures of the ICP, a homogeneous socialist government, and the involvement of feminist and environmental activists. In the spring of 1978, the communists won a majority in parliament, forming a bloc with the PSI and the Radical Party, and on October 25, Pietro was appointed prime minister, replacing the centrist cabinet of Hugo La Malfa. The beginning of the reign was marked by a brutal fight against organized crime and far-right terrorism. The result of the activity was the operation "Clean Hands" - the opening of the connection of the mafia with a number of political figures and corporations, and the trial of corrupt figures. As a result, the ruling party of the Christian Democrats collapsed, and the Bloc of Socialists and Communists took the place of the political hegemon. With the amendment of the constitution in 1982, Ingrao became the last premier of the First Republic and the father of the Second Republic.

Damn, this pic goes hard even though it is AI-Generated image. I guess we can use it to generate pics of alternate history settings. Wide possibilities

The Sudeten War: History of the World after an Alternate 1938 by @Onkel Willie

ca4106reviewse_ref.jpg

While the Bf-109 and in a lesser extent, the He-112s get the focus during the Sudeten War, it is mostly forgotten than still near half of the Luftwaffe fighter strenght where still biplanes. Among them were 36 ex-Austrian Fiat CR.32. Intended to be sold to Hungary, the rising tensions and the start of the war led to the transfer been cancelled and the aircrafts been used in the southern front of Czechoslovakia. Their performance over Central Europe was akin at what is was in Spain, an excellent, but outdated designed fighting against more modern I-16 and I-153 fighters off the VVS. Less than a dozen would survive the war, but all would be scrapped, with one surviving airframe been repainted more than 50 years later to the same color scheme.

The Spirit of Salamis- A Short Allied Victory in Crete TL by @phil03

One of the Greek Wildcats, temporarily under FAA control, mid-1941

While during the Siege of Crete, after the failed Operation Mercury, the RAF and FAA were the main defenders of the island, it should be forgotten that the island belongs to Greece, and besides a few British-made aircraft, they also received the F4F-3A Wildcats intended for them, used temporarily by the FAA of the 805 Sqn. Been given back to the Greeks in August, they were used as interceptors against enemy bombers and heavy fighters as they lack the two-stage supercharge to perform aerial dogfights akin to the Bf-109 and MC.202 fighters (but even so, it didn't stop the Hellenic Wildcat to shoot down said aircrafts, and more outdated italians fighters were not as dangerous as the previous say Axis ones). They would be replaced by Vought F4U-1A Corsairs in mid-1944 (in fact, outside of the UK, Greece became the only European operators of both aircrafts).

784px-The_Royal_Air_Force_during_the_Second_World_War_CH13151.jpg

Avro Lancaster bomber been refueled in a unknow Norwegian airfield, early November 1944 (prior to the falling snow)

With the liberation of Norway after Operation Apostle, the RAF formed the British Air Forces in Norway (BAFN), with dozens of squadrons been send to Norway. The reason was simple: shorter and easier routes between enemy targets and friendly territory, and more fuel save in each mission (even without the need of drop fuels). Dozens of Wings were based in the nation during the duration of the conflict (including several (but not all) Polish squadrons, as the Norwegian bases are closer to their homeland, and it became also easier to supply the Home Army from said bases). The USAAF also send a few Groups to Norway as well, forming the stopgap Sixth AF.

Also, with said liberation, and the return of King Haakon VII to Oslo, the Armed Forces were once again rebuilt and expanded, with several new dozens units in all three branches to be formed, with a squadron of Halifaxes and Typhoons in the Royal Norwegian Air Force among them, a squadron of older Danae-class light cruisers in the Royal Norwegian Navy and a Centaur cruiser tanks regiment to the Army among them. An infantry brigade and a fighter squadron was send to the Western Front as a "offer of gratitude" for their liberation.

NA FJ-3 Fury of VF-33 and Douglas AD-6 Skyraider of VA-25 aboard USS Intrepid (CVA-11), on their way to the East China Sea, 1956

While the F9F Cougar was the most common US Navy fighter over East China, the Fury became the most famous carrier fighter flying during Operation Flying Tiger and subsequent missions after said operation. One of the main reasons was probably due to the fact that the F-86 Sabre was the most common and successefull American fighter in service during the war, even with the introduction of its replacement, the F-100 Super Sabre, and with the Furies, in the eyes of civilans and ground forces, been a Navy Sabre, it helped them to gain recognition.

Unlike in earlier Pacific War, in which at the biggest, the USN and Marines operated the Wildcat, Hellcat and Corsair, during the Asian campaign in the Three Year War, the same branches of the US operated F2H Banshees, F3H Demons, F3D Skynight, F4D Skyray and F7U Cutlass, alongeside the already mensioned Panther's/Cougar's and Furies, plus the later introdution of the F8U Crusader.

It is also shown in the media, althought many navy aircrafts did participated in such event, that they were the escort of the 101st Airborne during the Revolt of the Admirals, on the 2nd of May 1957.

South Korean F-51D Mustangs on their way to attack North Korea, March 1st 1956.

Separated from the Three Year War, in a way to destroy the communist threat, President Lee launch the invasion of North Korea on the anniversary of the March 1st Movement, starting the Korean War, with the best of its armed forces leading the invasion (mostly armed with the late 1945 American equipment, including as shown, F-51D Mustangs). Operation Pukchin Tongil and a subsequent landing in Yongyu (with the help of disguised US Merchant Marines ships) were to land a deadly blow to the leadership of NK.

The real irony would be that the South Korean President would be exiled in Jeju island by October, with North China troops helping their communist brothers in both North and South, and heavily defeating the US forces based in the South, unprepared for such event to occur, only prepared for self-defense guerrilla war.

What is the Secret of Soylent Green? | A Short Eco-Apocalyptic Timeline by @Tresckow

From ,,The New Brazilian Order - The Last Day of the Amazon" by Martin A. Dobbee (2001, copyright Detroit Publishing Company)
Main Types of Habitat Loss - Everything Connects

,,Brazil was hit especially badly by the Hot Summer (winter in the northern hemisphere), culminating in the Sao Paulo massacre; a ration riot that ended with police officers opening fire on the raging crowd and killing close to 230 people. After that, Brazil opened millions upon millions of acres of the Amazon Rainforest for farming to prevent another food riot from getting that deadly again /// As you can clearly see, the local administration was extremly careless with their pursuit for more farmland. However, since Siliao was still a year away from being released, and the government couldn't be bothered to increase funding to already existing farms... and also couldn't hire competent lumberjacks, this had a horrible effect on the local area. 100s of miles of the ,,Lungs of the Earth" were cut down despite being absulotly not suitable for farmland, and many workers used fire to clear the land faster which caused it to erode even quicker. The Opposition, in the form of the Workers' Party, quickly condemned theese acts but their underwhelming minority in Parlament was too little to do anything. By the time Reconstructionist politicians realized the extent of the damage it was too late - roughly 80 - 95 % of the Amazon Rainforest had ceased to exist, and due to the previously mentioned botched ,,quick tree removal" methods the land was essentialy little more than a massive wasteland."

From ,,Fear, Loathing and Oil on the New Trail of Tears - Africa in the year 2000" by Krzysztof Kononowicz, excerpt from the ,,People's Tribune" Polish Propaganda Newspaper (1999)

1683829437470.jpeg

,,The sheer ecological damage done to the African continent in the past 40 years is undescribable. While the Foreign Imperialists certainlny haven't helped matters, it is more than clear that the local people are nowhere near ready to embrace socialism and the red mantle has been taken by pretenders - whom are little more than warlords. The Lion and the Elephant are both extinct in the wild, dozens of states have begun to collapse and the Sahara is expanding faster than Imperialists when they see oil."

The following words shook an entire generation of Poles and foreign intelligentsia :

,,If the situation dosen't change, then in (give or take) 30 years time there will be no thieves. There will be no bandits. There will be nothing."

So South Korea falls to the DPRK here? But there's an ongoing insurgency ala reverse Vietnam?
