Ike's heart attack

I think there was another thread on this subject. Richard Nixon, 42, would have become the nation's second youngest president. Being inexperienced in the light of the cold war, Stevenson might have defeated him in 1956.

Here the butterflies take over. Having been defeated as an incumbent, Nixon might not be able to win in the future. JFK would have needed to run in 1960, and that would require Stevenson to voluntarily settle for one term. By 1964, JFK would be suffering from Addison's disease to the extent he would not consider the presidency.

Stevenson died in '65 of a heart attack, so if he had any angina, etc., before he might retire after one. But, just because the Kennedys want him to, he won't on his own unless he has some scandal in his background.

However, Nixon might win in '56 - Suez is going to be the key. It was right before the election, and how he handles that will make or break him.
