Hello everyone,
I always wondered about the influence of the name "Palestine" itself, and the consequences thereof.
So, let's say the Roman Empire never renamed the province of "Judea" to "Palestina" or "Syria Palestina".
Later, the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine), continued with the name "Judea" for the province.
After that, the Arab Caliphate keeps the name in an Arabic version - let's say "Yahudiya" province, and eventualy the Ottomans keep the same name, followed by the British, who rule the "Mandate of Judea".
How do you think this influences the Jewish and Arab national movements in this land?
Would the Jeiwsh state still be named "Israel"?
Would Palestinian Arab nationalism still have arisen?
How would the Arab inhabitants have called themselves? Judeans? Canaanites? Arabs?
