If Miliband Resigned in 2013

Let's say that the media bullying finally got to him, and Ed Miliband had stepped down sometime in 2013. For the sake of this, let's say it's in the spring so there's enough time to elect a new leader in time for the party conference. Who would the most likely candidates be, who would win, and would it be enough to let Labour win the election, or at least do better?

I could definitely see David coming back from the political wilderness to run.

He's not an MP at this point, so cannot legally become leader, and I think the 'replace one Miliband for another' farce would be too great to be attempted. (This is, I believe, why he left politics - he knew he would not replace Ed and would be unlikely to even succeed him.)

Anyway, IIRC 2013 wasn't a bad year for Ed, and that 2011 and post-Euros 2014 were the real 'he's got to go' years. If he did somehow go, Cooper or Balls would probably succeed him, and get a roughly similar result to OTL 2015.

I disagree. I think it would've been even worse or for Labour, having replaced one uninspiring leader with Literally Ed Balls would've turned a lot of people off. "You can't even keep your leader, why should we trust you with government?"

Not necessarily, if Ed resigned between January and the end of March before David announced he was stepping down then David could decide against stepping down to run for Leader

One Miliband replacing another would be seen as farcical and a tad ridiculous. And I doubt he'd win another leadership contest against his brother who would have the weight of union backing in his favour.

Completely ASB!

Ed Miliband, has already fought tooth and nail, for this position, has caused a family reift and believes that he has to stay to get his political views pushed through.

He is too thick skin to just walk away because the media is "Bullying" him.

The only way of getting rid of him is a massive scandle, which even then Labour, may still keep him in eg. Browns "Bigoted woman" quote. Or having taken out, which is even more ASB lol.
