If Michael Jackson hadnt gotten accused of child abuse?

If the accusations about MJ had never come about in 1993, how would it affect his career? Everything else that happens IOTL happens ITL (ie, the wedding to lisa marie, his death), but the question was, does he keep his popularity, or become a forgotten 80s relic like cyndi lauper or billy idol?

I think that MJ was twilighting in his career by the mid-90's. I think that was the time of his last successful release. He released something in 2000ish, but it flopped (at least in the US).

I think that somewhere in the 90's MJ morphed from an eccentric performer with some marketable pop music into just an eccentric. Even without the pedophilic accusations I think he would have just sunk into debt as well as addiction and endless plastic surgery endeavours. He might have done better financially without the settlements in the abuse cases.

I feel sorry for MJ. He was hooked on pain relievers, maybe had an eating disorder, acted immaturely for an adult, and had gross money management issues. But I think it was right to eulogize him. He did spectacularly well in the 80's, and was righly recognized for his contribution to pop music. But he had a lot of issues that befell him without the abuse accusations.

I have just spent the last couple of hours in shock over the though that in an infinite number of universes there might be rather a lot of Michael Jacksons and a very large number of them will be rather unhealthy to be around.
