That might have been a part of the story but not the entire story.I'm under the impression that the invasion of Algeria was a popularity ploy, since Charles X was obviously nowhere as popular as Louis XVIII.

The regime of Charles X fell shortly after invading Algeria, but France took 132 years to withdraw. The Orleanists, three republics, and the Second Empire all stayed in Algeria so the whole thing probably was more than the whim of one king.
