If Louis XVIII lives longer, is he going to eventually invade Algeria just like his brother Charles X did in our TL?

I'm under the impression that the invasion of Algeria was a popularity ploy, since Charles X was obviously nowhere as popular as Louis XVIII.

Care to correct me if I'm wrong though.

French prestige just like Western Africa which was mostly desert of Arid and till scramble for Africa not worth anything but it sure looked nice on map that HUGE blue area. Makes a French heart proud.

Wasn't there a legitimate reason to invade Algeria, to stop the piracy?

The regime of Charles X fell shortly after invading Algeria, but France took 132 years to withdraw. The Orleanists, three republics, and the Second Empire all stayed in Algeria so the whole thing probably was more than the whim of one king.

Was piracy still a big issue in 1830?

The casus belli was the insult of a diplomat because of debts revolutionary France made and that Charles X had no intention of paying. This probably stays the same.

It was the first real expansion of France since the Napoleonic wars. Algeria is far closer to Europe than fe India or other SEA regions. This also stays the same really.

Charles X was deeply unpopular, and the war was seen as a method of enhancing national and his prestige.

There were also a lot of Napoleonic veterans and foreign mercenaries, who didn't have any work and giving them a war to fight would get them busy and out of France.

So three of the four reasons are the same. I think an expansionist France that can't expand on the continent will eventually let it's eye drift to Algeria. No matter who rules.

Nothing stops Louis XVIII from invading Algeria... except an untimely death.

There is also a thing, will Louis XVIII participate in the Navarino expedition? Possibly. Then the results won't change. If the Navarino expedition is avoided then the North African Fleet is also not destroyed. Not sure how it will affect French desire on North Africa but it will certainly in some ways.
