So, to clarify, as people call the Russian federation, "Russia", the United Mexican States ,"Mexico" and the Hellenic Republic "Greece", what would people call a new Roman Republic and/,or Empire.
Would they just call the country Rome ,and call the capital "Rome city" in the same way people call Mexico "Mexico City" as I believe that Mexico was named after it's capital city.
Oh and incase it helps, Benito Mussolini, who is smarter and more competent, is the one to rename Italy, and he is vastly more successful in it gaining prestige as he focuses on the economy and building industry, while Libya is used as an extension of Italy itself as Libyans are considered citizens. He never goes after Ethiopia and doesn't join Hitler eventually joins the Allies. Thus keeping the Italian/new Roman territories lost in OTL. Italy occupies Austria with weapons and supplies from the British/Americans, thus giving them an occupation zone. This Italy takes France's place in the United Nations. Italy eventually discovers oil in Libya and becomes a major economy alongside the post war Germany.
Don't focus on the possibility of the above, the general idea is that Italy is a great power and has decidedd to rename itself the Roman Whatever, to reflect it's status.
Since this Italy is respected and is seen as the genuine successor to the Romans with everybody recognizing it as such, what would be it's informal name?
