Let's look at John Tyler's presidency in reality what he accomplished and what he hoped to achieve. John Tyler was an advocate of the strict interpretation of the constitution and strongly advocated state rights with limited government. The Virginian though he Vetoed many programs the whigs had established he was always willing to work with other people on different sides of the file and spoke out against the spoil system advocating both democrats and whigs should work together. However, Henrey clay would have non of these beliefs that the country was more important than petty politics and sealed no matter what to sabotage his presidency out of revenge for his vetoes

John Tyler advocated cheap land for individual farmers out west and wanted to Civilized American Indians as what the Virginia dynasty advocated instead of Indian removal. Despite the better treatment by the whig party, the general public liked him as he made speeches for the public and advocated for guests particularly common people to feel comfortable once they visited the president. Tyler advocated a nearly nonpartisan free trade agreement with the German state
s which particularly benefited the South and midwest with no real drawbacks and pointed out the benefit for the common people and the country as a whole. Tyler believed slavery was evil Yet he fought for slavery to expand in the west and correctly noted the constitution protected slavery. He said slavery was apart of state rights. This Tyler strongly advocated Manifest Destiny but did not wish the war would come, but new it was, of course, possible and sought peaceful solutions to avoid war despite the military preparations in case war came and to negotiate in a position of strength. He would not be bullied, but was reasonable and even would discover death threats because the opposition hated him. Yet as president, he would show no signs of a tyrant when a president could have overacted during those moments.
