If Gore wins in 2000, who does he pick for his Cabinet?

I'm working on a timeline about this subject and this part is stumping me, Who would Gore/Lieberman pick for their cabinet positions? I'm Think Kerry for Secretary of Defense and Hilary for Secretary of State, but the rest confuse me to no end, any ideas?

Clinton isn't going to be SoS. Remember, in 2000, she'd just gotten elected to her first term as the Junior Senator from New York. I would expect her to stay there for the foreseeable future.

I read an excellent essay by David Frum about a Gore presidency's reaction to 9/11. The important members mentioned are:

  • Joe Lieberman: Vice President
  • Leon Fuerth: National Security Advisor
  • Richard Holbrooke: Secretary of State
  • Wesley Clark: Secretary of Defense
  • Carol Browner: Head of the EPA
  • George Soros: Secretary of the Treasury
  • Vernon Jordan: Attorney General
  • Donna Brazile: Chief of Staff

IIRC, Clark hadn't been a civilian long enough by even the time Barack Obama was inaugurated to have been considered for the position of Secretary of Defense (ten years, I believe), so unless Gore persuades a Republican Congress to amend the law and allow Clark to be Secretary of Defense, I don't see it happening.

Ah, yes. Such a stupid rule!

Eh, I dunno. Maybe he can be the one to try and get rid of that god-rotting rule. Or maybe he keeps Bill Cohen, or chooses somebody like Sandy Berger.

Al Gore could well keep much of the Clinton cabinet which was there at the end of Clinton's administration. There's probably some article from 1999 or 2000 on Al Gore's "future" cabinet possibilities, btw.

I tried finding one of those, articles with no luck, all buried by Obama's cabinet.
