If Ford won in 1976, what would become of Bob and Elizabeth Dole?

Reagan would probably defeat Bob Dole in the 1980 Republican presidential primary. If--as I am inclined to believe--by 1980 the GOP brand would be sufficiently tarnished that nobody including Reagan could save the party from defeat that year, Bob Dole might be the GOP candidate in 1984 bur he would face competition--Bush, Kemp, etc. (I don't see Elizabeth Dole as being a presidential candidate until Bob's presidential hopes are definitely finished, as they were after 1996 in OTL.)

I do think this could elevate Elizabeth Dole’s career. She probably runs for Senate in the 90s, stays in there for a few terms, maybe gets her own shot at running for President or VP in a serious way.

Would Reagan even run in this timeline's 1980 election? Would he, really, run if he knew that no Republican could win, as is almost certain to be the case, in this timeline? Especially if it looked like any Republican would not only lose but, indeed, lose in a blowout. Would Reagan, really, want to be humiliated in the election? What do you think?

It might not be obvious when he chooses to run that he would lose--after all, for a while it looked like Carter had a chance in OTL. Anyway, this would presumably be his last chance at the presidency--what does he have to lose?

I think Reagan narrowly beats Dole for the nomination in 1980 and loses the general election to the Democrats. Dole runs in 1984, gets nominated, and loses in 1984 to the incumbent. I could then see Elizabeth launching a political career of her own as a Congresswoman, Senator, of Governor sometime in the late 80s or 90s or getting a cabinet position in a Republican Administration that starts between 1989 and 1997.
